(Colombo Gazette) The main opposition United National Party (UNP) says it wants the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to be implemented in its current form.UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka said that the 13th Amendment came about as a result of the agreement reached between India and Sri Lanka and not the UNP and former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Attanayaka said that the 13th Amendment is not aimed at dividing the country but instead one that was approved by the Supreme Court as part of Sri Lanka’s constitution. “If someone says that this is an agreement reached between J.R Jayawardena and  Rajiv Gandhi or in other words the UNP and Rajiv Gandhi, that is wrong.
